The browser decodes the visible picture and writes a fresh PNG without copying the source EXIF, GPS, IPTC, or XMP records. This avoids carrying hidden camera tags into the new file while retaining transparency. The output can be larger than a JPG or WebP, and browser color management may change pixel values. It is not a byte-for-byte lossless metadata editor. Animated inputs become a single frame.

Select a camera JPG with EXIF tags and download a fresh PNG without copying those tags. Review visible details too: metadata removal cannot hide a street sign in the picture.
