Area describes the size of a surface. Because both dimensions change, area factors are the square of length factors: 1 meter is 100 centimeters, but 1 square meter is 10,000 square centimeters. One hectare is 10,000 square meters. The international acre used here is exactly 4,046.8564224 square meters, based on 43,560 international square feet. Historical US survey acres use a slightly different definition.
