Volume measures occupied space, not mass. Metric definitions give 1 liter = 1,000 milliliters and 1 milliliter = 1 cubic centimeter. A US liquid gallon is exactly 3.785411784 liters; an Imperial gallon is 4.54609 liters. This converter keeps those systems separate. The US customary cup is one sixteenth of a US gallon, or 236.5882365 milliliters. A US tablespoon is three US teaspoons.
